Soil Conditioners

Soil Conditioners

We sell a range of soil conditioners which, when added to your beds and borders, will boost the nutrient content to give your plants, shrubs and vegetables a boost throughout the growing season.  Put on the surface as a mulch that will slowly rot down into the soil, or dig straight in to your existing soil before planting.

Our range includes general multi-purpose composts, as well as conditioners suitable to more specific applications such as pot planting seedlings and potting on.  If you need any advice as to which conditioner is most suitable to your planting needs then please contact us.

If you are starting a bed or border from scratch, or want to improve drainage, why not visit our Bed & Border Planting Mixes page.  We mix sandy loam soil with our soil conditioners to create nutrient rich, free draining growing media.

  4. Manure Dry
    Manure
    From £5.90

A natural well-rotted stable manure. This is purely horse manure, sourced locally, from either straw or sawdust bedding. As a natural multi-source product the consistency and look of the manure can vary load to load, but we always ensure that the manure is well rotted before it leaves our yard.

Perfect for digging in to soil to boost the nutrient content before planting, or for using as a mulch around the base of plants.

By its nature, rotting manure can retain alot of heat before being spread out or dug in.  For this reason you should wait a few weeks before planting when digging it in to soil, and avoid plant stems when using as a mulch, to minimise the possibility of scorching.

If you are starting a bed or border from scratch, or want to improve drainage, why not visit our Bed & Border Planting Mixes page.  We mix our soil conditioners with sandy loam topsoil to create nutrient rich free draining growing media.

We process this manure at our depot in Newenden, turning it regularly to promote the rotting down process.  However please be aware that we do not shred or screen the manure.  Whilst we take care to remove items that we see in the manure as we process it, please be aware that you may find the odd item that has found its way from the stable yard into the manure heap!

Available in Loose Loads, Bulk Bags & 40ltr Bags.

  5. Mushroom Compost Dry
    Mushroom Compost
    From £5.50

This is a very popular, well-rotted, manure based compost which is a by product of the mushroom growing industry. Recommended as a soil conditioner to boost the nutrient content of the soil before planting. Due to the addition of lime during the mushroom growing process we do not recommend this product for use with ericaceous (acid loving) plants.
