When creating new beds and borders, or topping up existing areas, soil alone may not contain the required nutrients. Using pure compost could make the media prone to water-logging, and will require more frequent toppng up as the compost rots down. With this in mind we have created a range of mixes that contain our premium sandy loam topsoil, to provide body and longevity to the growing media, and soil conditioners to inject the nutrients needed to optimise plant growth.
If you have enough existing soil and just need a nutrient boost have a look at our 50/50 mix of soil conditioners.
These mixes are general purpose and can be used for most plants and vegetables. If you require a mix for more specific planting please visit our Professional Growing Media page.
A 50:50 mix of our premium sandy loam soil and well-rotted stable manure. The sandy loam is the free draining body of the mix, and the manure adds vital nutrients.
We source our manure from local stables and it will be either shavings or straw based. Whilst this is a natural product and therefore consistency will vary, we endeavour to ensure that all manure delivered to our customers is well rotted. Please be aware that it may still retain some heat so we recommend that you put the growing media down a few weeks before planting. If using as a mulch be careful not to allow the manure mix to touch the stalks of the plant.
A 50:50 mix of our premium sandy loam soil and mushroom compost. The sandy loam is the free draining body of the mix and the mushroom compost adds vital nutrients.
Mushroom compost is a manure based soil conditioner that is nutrient rich. Most plants thrive on it however please be aware that it can be slightly alkaline and therefore would not be suitable for acid loving plants.
Clay soil? If digging in to clay soil choose our mix with added grit to cut through the clay and aid drainage.
